My life is my passion, and my passion is for teaching Braille!
I started learning Braille in 2009 through the Division of Rehabilitation Services. Working with Ms. Beverly cobb. I quickly grew in skill and passion for this complex language. Ms. Cobb saw something in me that was inspiring. Unfortunately, she passed away. I felt a strong responsibility to carry on the legacy that she built. As a result, I asked for permission to teach Ms. Cobb’s Braille classes on a volunteer basis. I continued to do so over the past eight years. Over the past decade, I have built a strong list of credentials as a Braille instructor.
Work experience:
I am currently working as a Braille vendor for Department of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) for the last seven months.
I am working with a client introducing the client to the Braille alphabet
I worked for the GLEEM Bible Institute as a Braille teacher last fall.
I taught an introduction to Unified English Braille course.
I also taught an advance course in Braille this past February and March 2024.
Worked for the Colombia Lighthouse for the Blind for one year as a assistance Technology representative.
Taught an introduction to JAWS for their clients during their FAB classes.
Worked as a Braille teacher for the ARC department in Largo, Maryland.
I was teaching a client Braille for nine months before the pandemic came.
Volunteer Braille Work:
Do volunteer work as a braille teacher for the National Federation of the Blind, National Harbor Chapter for the last twelve years.
The students learned how to read sentences and write Braille.
The students were introduced to the Braille alphabet, punctuation marks and learned how to use the Braillewriter and slate and stylist.
Also, did volunteer work for the Department of Rehabilitation Services for eight years (DORS)
Currently, I continue to teach Braille via telephone conference call since the pandemic for the National Harbor Chapter.
The students are learning non contracted and contracted Braille.
I have also had four years of training as a braille transcriber from the National Federation of the Blind Braille Transcriber course studying the unified English braille.
My goal is to teach students Braille and make sure they can read a regular Braille book of their choice.
